Following my own advice from the Theory of Concentric Circles, I first got the machine to idle, and then went up and down the street, and then went around the block. So far, so good, so I decided to go for a real test on an extended loop. The bike is way louder than it should be with the straight pipes (video clip below), but it seems to run ok once the revs are up. Turn signals need work, and the starter does not work, but other than that it now goes and stops and turns. More decessorizing ahead, and a search for some pipes.
