Riding A Slow Bike Fast

Classic Velocity

Pennsylvania State Road 550 is a well kept secret. It connects nowhere in particular to nowhere in particular in the middle of the state. It is undulating and curvy, and generally good fun. If you are ever fortunate enough to ride this road on a modern sport bike, it would be a blast. However, on a 1973 /5 ridden between 50 and 70mph, it is a thrill-seeking roller-coaster combined with the tail of the dragon! Having only four gears is about right, and being full of AV gas is perfect. It is about rhythm rather than horse power, momentum rather than torque. I am sure that the guy on the liter bike that followed me for a while was highly entertained seeing the Krausers at such lean angles. All told, there is no better way to spend a September afternoon.

Another Breakfast Run

Classic Velocity

This seems to be the vehicle that gets the call on the early breakfast runs. This time up to Stroudsburg for coffee and croissants. It was a lovely ride along the river as temps were cool and in spots a few leaves were falling......

Summer Sustenance

Classic Velocity

It has become a much loved routine. A beautiful summer morning, relatively cool temperatures, the scenic river route, coffee and the best brioche this side of France. On this occasion, the conversation was sobered by the recent terrorist attacks in France. Not exactly light summer banter, but relevant to the venue. Back home before 10am.

Off To The Crossing

Classic Velocity

The Toaster was the last minute choice for the Gathering of the Nortons, as the Commando was not yet  back to its former glory. A perfect early morning and a meandering route through northern bucks county was great for the soul. The R75 has all the power you need for these farm roads, and the Krausers have enough carrying capacity for the extra layers and gloves needed for a spring morning in the northeast. I was glad of the heavier gloves and the jacket liner. Magnificent event as usual, and then a great route back through parts of NJ as I cross-crossed the Delaware river. I did however, discover that the horn on this machine is beyond pathetic. It needs a major upgrade if I want to use it to warn anyone of anything !

Frost and Foliage

Classic Velocity

This was one of those schizophrenic fall days where we started out with light frost, but ended up near 70 degrees. Out for a spin later in the day, it was perfect and the /5 agreed. Acceleration proved particularly strong and there was a fair amount of running above 70mph. It was not my fault, that is where the machine wanted to stay today ! All in all, a nice way to circulate the oil as we enter November.
