Mark and crew invite his customers in each year for a bratwurst and a beer. This year I drove the 02 and was greeted by another nice 02 driven by Girt who I last saw in Asheville at the Vintage event. Also present were Dick, Bruce, Ed, Jeff, Chris, and others. Some cool stuff in the shop also....

The Vintage 2016

Classic Velocity

Another trip to NC successfully completed. Plenty of rain and smoky mountain adventures. The car was flawless once again except for the wipers and the headlights (see main blog post). It was really cool bumping into Girt and his inka dual side draft beast ! Plenty of compliments on the color and paint as usual. 5th gear is a blessing on the highway.

Headrests

Classic Velocity

A simple thing. The headrests needed a thorough cleaning and reconditioning. They responded amazingly well. The hardest part was deciding to pierce the seat cover to reinsert the headrest posts. With a little elbow grease, they are back inn place, and the car's interior somehow now looks right.

Driving

Classic Velocity

A Sunday breakfast was a good opportunity to take a long drive with the car. It idles and runs well, and the 13 inch wheels produce some surprisingly good handling. It does need a shift bushing kit and a few other items, but this car will not need much fiddling....

Blau Ribbon

Classic Velocity

Rarely does a machine come into the garage that is already in superb shape. I mean show winning shape. Such is the case with this 76 2002. It is a standard 1976 car with no special features or factory rarities. However, it was subject to a bare metal restore that I witnessed. It was owned by a guy who had a body shop, and who decided to take on a 2002 after allowing Ed and I to store a couple of parts car 02s. I was there periodically and watched a planned paint job turn into a full on restoration. Money was not a barrier. I told him that I had first dibs if he decided to sell. It took 6 years.

The parts were all OEM BMW purchased from a dealership ! The paint is superb. It needs a few minor things, but not much.  I will eventually get some restoration pictures.
